Our Spelling Champion!

Exciting! Energetic! Enthusiastic! These are just some of the words we can use to describe the atmosphere in the PE hall at St. Mary’s yesterday. Thirty pupils from 5th and 6th classes filed into the hall at 2pm to take their seats for the final of our school’s “Spelling Bee”. The audience, made up of their classmates, as well as pupils from 3rd and 4th classes, waited anxiously. One by one, each participant stepped up to the microphone to face words such as amateur, hierarchy, stringent and acrophobia. Slowly but surely, the number of participants dwindled until we reached the final two. It would become a battle between two 6th class girls – one in Room 29, the other in Room 33. The words were challenging. The girls were calm. Everyone was on the edge of their seats. With about three minutes to go before the 3pm bell, we had a winner . Our spelling champion, from Room 29, will now represent St. Mary’s at the Meath County Finals in a few weeks time! Well done and good luck!
