May 25th was Sport’s Day at St Mary’s and over 600 pupils from Junior Infants through to 6th Class participated. The morning began with a treasure hunt involving Junior and Senior Infant pupils. The Activity Stations are always very popular on Sport’s Day. These activities commenced after the morning break and included Baton Relay, Basketball Shots, Penalty Kicks, Obstacle Races, Dribbling, Sack Races, Beanbag Hops and Water Races, to mention but a few. The Accuracy Throw is always dreaded by teachers – pupils in this activity get a chance to throw wet sponges at the face of their teacher (call it revenge for the hard work inflicted on them during the year!). Class activities took place after a spot of lunch. In the last hour of the day, Lorraine Pidgeon and Mr O’Mahony entertained everyone with their Zumba Dancing! This year, the Yellow Team were the overall school winners and were awarded the Sport’s Day trophy – congratulations to the Yellow Team and of course to all the boys and girls on the other teams as well (Red, Blue and White). A fun and active day was had by all!
