Fair Trade Fortnight

It is Fair Trade Fortnight at the moment and 6th Class marked the occasion by hosting a Fair Trade assembly. Fair Trade is linked to the Green Flag theme of Global Citizenship. Some pupils in the class explained the meaning of Fair Trade and its benefits to farmers in the developing world. As part of our research, we learned about the Fair Trade logo. We drew up a list of Fair Trade products sold in Ireland and put some of these on display during the presentation. To conclude our assembly we explained how organisations such as Trócaire are associated with Fair Trade and we recited the poem “Fair Trade Bananas” that we downloaded from the Trócaire website. Some pupils in First Class then came forward to display the pictures they had created of the Fair Trade logo.
