‘Toys From The Past’ – Room 18 (Third Class)

As part of our investigation into life in the past we decided to find out more about toys and how they have changed over time. We researched information on some toys and found out some very interesting facts. For example, did you know the teddy bear was invented in honour of the American President Rossevelt as a result of a bear hunting trip in 1902 ????

Take a look at our great projects on ‘Old Toys’!!

GDPR Walk: 2nd October 2020

On Friday the 2nd of October we went on our GDPR walk.  All classes from Junior Infants to Sixth class went on the walk.  We were all hoping that the weather would be okay and it turned out to be an amazing day.  We walked in two’s from our pods.  We started by going out the Summerhill gate, then turning left and walking up to Mornington.  We then turned right and walked down the estate path.  Next we went down the alley way, and walked past St Michael’s and back into St Mary’s.  It wasn’t a long walk, but it was enjoyable.  At the end of the walk our class took pictures in our pods so we could remember our walk.

Tree Day – Thursday 1st October 2020

Tree Day (Lá na gCrann) takes place on Thursday 1st October 2020. The year’s theme is ‘Be A Force for Nature’. All the details can be found at www.treeday.ie.

Here is a group of children explaining all about Tree Day (the video was produced for Tree Day in 2019).

With the days getting shorter and the nights becoming a little longer, Tree Week offers us a chance to explore nature at work during autumn. There is much to explore and observe around us in the natural environment around Trim.

During lockdown we rekindled our respect for nature. Let’s do our best to keep it up!

Mercy Day at St Mary’s

Today is Mercy Day and a day of celebration at our school. St Mary’s Primary School was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1868. We salute the dedication of the Mercy Sisters down through the years in Trim and we remember the founder of the Mercy Order, Catherine McAuley.

National Bike Week 2020!

This is National Bike Week. More information on can be sourced at www.bikeweek.ie .

Under normal circumstances we would organise a bike event, but this year everything is different. We would encourage anyone who can, to cycle or scoot to school this week. Apart from it being a healthy start to the day, it is also helping our environment by reducing carbon emissions.

We will hold off on starting our WOW campaign also as classes start at different times.

Once again, we encourage our walkers to continue walking to school whenever possible.
