St Mary’s Banna Ceoil was set up in 2008 by Mrs Nally and Mrs McGale to provide an opportunity for students to play music together. We have grown in strength and numbers since then and we are very proud of our young musicians. The Banna gets together on a weekly basis and often performs at school events such as Open Day, Masses, assemblies, St Patrick’s Day Parade and has even been the support for a John Spillane concert! They have been commended in the prestigious Walton’s Music for Schools competition. The Banna participated in a Ceolathon in conjunction with the Trim branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. We have played in concert with the Dublin Youth Orchestra and also with Gluais, the musical group from Scoil Mhuire. We have had violin, flute, tin whistle, harp, guitar, accordion and concertina players in the Banna. The school also operates a rental scheme where children can rent an instrument at a very affordable rate. The Banna gives the children a chance to learn a variety of musical genres in a fun but structured environment. In March 2020 , just a few days before the schools closed due to the Covid pandemic , the Banna performed in the National Basketball Arena in Dublin as part of Córfhéile , a national festival of music . We are very proud of the glowing report we received from the panel of musical experts . Please check out our website for some musical clips!!!
