Pupils in Room 27 have been learning about the Great Irish Famine in History and in English. They worked collaboratively in creating and presenting poster projects on the topic. Marita Conlon-McKenna’s ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree‘ was read by the class and persuasive letters were written by the pupils to Lord Edward on behalf of the novel’s protagonists. Over one million Irish people emigrated during the Great Famine and this was poignantly illustrated by the pupils in their art displays entitled ‘Trasna na dTonnta, ó Éire go Meiriceá’.
